Groups & Workshops

"I feel so alone."

"Nobody understands what I'm going through"

"Why is she doing this; I don't understand."

These are just a few comments heard over the years. Group therapy and support groups provide a supportive network to aid with the painful feelings of isolation that often accompany circumstances such as illness and life transition.

The Athena Center is committed to providing exceptional group therapy, support groups and workshops to meet the needs of our clients and their families.

Groups

What's the difference between group therapy and a support group?
Group therapy and support groups are similar in some ways. Both groups bring people together who are struggling with a similar problem and offer support to those that attend.

Group Therapy — utilizes the group members' interactions to address communication patterns and behaviors that may be contributing to difficulties group members are experiencing. We use what is going on in the therapy as a microcosm of the bigger picture of what is precluding you from living the life you want.

Support Groups — are psycho-educational and often do not require a commitment to attend all sessions. The goal of support groups is often to provide information about the topic addressed and offer attendees to ask questions of the therapist and other group members.
